The New York Mets will try once again to bring their excruciating losing streak to an end Wednesday when they host the Minnesota Twins in Game Two of a three-game midweek series. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EST at Citi Field in Queens, NY with coverage provided by MLB.TV.
For a few innings, there was reason to think the losing streak was going to end at 11 with a win on Tuesday. The Mets took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third, but then the Twins tacked on two in the sixth and a third in the seventh to tie things up. Minnesota took the lead with a pair of runs in the ninth, extending the Mets' losing streak to 12 games in a row.
No single aspect of the Mets game can be blamed for the streak; they’ve been bad all-around. Over the last 15 days (which includes their last win on April 7), the Mets' pitching staff has posted an ERA of 5.38; only the Phillies and Astros have been worse. As for their bats, they have hit .198 with just 26 runs batted in.
As of late Tuesday night, the Twins had yet to name a starting pitcher for Wednesday. But the Mets will send Clay Holmes to the mound. Holmes is 2-2 in four starts with a 1.96 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP.

I can kind of see why the betting has been so heavy on the Mets outright winning this game. Clay Holmes has done a pretty good job on the mound so far this season. If he can put together another solid outing, and if the lineup can generate a few runs, the stage is set for a win! Now, we don’t know for certain who the Twins will start, but rumor has it that Connor Prielipp has been called up for that purpose. Prielipp has been solid in AAA (2.30 ERA, 30.6% strikeout rate).
So I see no reason to assume the Mets lineup will suddenly come to life. Consequently, the Twins ML is a great value play.
