In July, the Guardians lost two of three games in their series earlier this month against the Twins in Minneapolis, but then swept the Marlins, bounced back from the All-Star break, and took only one game in their series against the Pirates. They are now poised to sweep the Twins again, this time in Cleveland, a crucial move against their divisional rivals.

Minnesota took the first game of the series 13-4, a resounding victory in which Stephen Vogt's team scored runs in every inning except the eighth. It was a tremendous offensive performance, marking the sixth time in franchise history that they hit at least seven home runs. DeLauter had four hits, as did Bailey in that game.

On Tuesday, the Guards also won the second game of the series, this time 5-2. They were favored at -150 odds to win, and they did so thanks to a solid performance by Parker Messick. However, it was Holderman who earned the win from the bullpen. Kwan hit an RBI double, and Rocchio added a single that drove Kwan in. In the sixth inning, Cleveland built their lead with a pair of sacrifice flies by Hedges and Halpin.
