The Guardians and Twins both positioned themselves as sellers before the trade deadline, and now face each other in a matchup that has recently favored the Guardians, so much so that they have won eight of their last ten games against the Twins, including the last two of this series that concludes Sunday. In Game 1, they started as -121 favorites and won 3-2; in Game 2, they were -148 favorites and won 5-4.

Ramírez was again instrumental in Saturday's victory; he hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning, his 22nd of the season. Later, Bo Naylor hit a double in the bottom of the eighth that provided the go-ahead run.

Both teams parted ways with numerous players, especially bullpen players. Because Clase is being investigated for gambling-related issues, he couldn't close out Saturday's game, but Gaddis performed excellently, pitching one inning and striking out three.

Batting-wise, Saturday was a 9-hit day for the Twins, but with 15 strikeouts. Leadoff hitter Roden went 1-for-5 with 4 strikeouts in a lineup that didn't include Buxton.
