The Milwaukee Brewers and Washington Nationals are set to face off in Game 2 of their three-game weekend series today, with momentum clearly on the Brewers' side. On Friday night, Milwaukee opened the series with an explosive 16-9 victory, showcasing a red-hot offense that overwhelmed Washington’s pitching staff. Every Brewers hitter who stepped up to the plate recorded multiple hits—except for catcher Jansen, who still managed to contribute with a base hit, an RBI, and two times on base. It was a complete offensive effort from a team that’s been surging at just the right time.
Milwaukee has had Washington’s number all season long, and Friday night’s blowout only solidified that trend. The Brewers swept the Nationals in a three-game series back in mid-July at American Family Field and have now improved to 4-0 against Washington in 2025. In those four matchups, they’ve outscored the Nats by a 40-18 margin, putting their dominance on full display.
The Nationals find themselves in a much bleaker position. After losing two out of three to the Houston Astros earlier in the week, their playoff hopes have nearly vanished. Washington now sits 17.5 games behind the division-leading New York Mets in the NL East, and only the struggling Colorado Rockies have a worse record in the National League. A series loss here would be yet another nail in the coffin for a team that has struggled to find consistency all season.

Our Washington Nationals vs Milwaukee Brewers Prediction
Saturday’s pitching matchup heavily favors Milwaukee. Brandon Woodruff, the Brewers' ace right-hander, will make his fifth start of the season after returning from injury in July. The 32-year-old has been stellar since his return, posting a 2.01 ERA and helping the Brewers win all four of his previous starts.
On the other side, Washington will turn to Jake Irvin, a 28-year-old righty with a 4.69 ERA across 22 prior starts. While Irvin has helped the Nationals to back-to-back wins in his last two outings, he’ll face a much tougher challenge against a red-hot Milwaukee lineup.
The Brewers have used this hot stretch to leapfrog the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. Once trailing for much of the first half, Milwaukee has now taken over first place in the division after winning 15 of their last 19 games. That consistency has given them a slim but significant one-game lead over the Cubs as August baseball heats up.
Given recent history, current form, and the Woodruff-Irvin pitching duel, Milwaukee is well-positioned to take Game 2. Our prediction for Washington Nationals vs. Milwaukee Brewers: Brewers continue to dominate.
