The Brewers likely have the division locked up with an 11-game lead and 38 to play, but they can really put the NL Central in a chokehold with a strong performance here.
And Milwaukee has simply dominated the NL Central this year, which is why the Brewers have that healthy lead. The Brewers are 25-14 against the NL Central, and there’s the 11-game lead right there. There’s reason for concern when Milwaukee gets to the playoffs, because the Brewers haven’t shown much ability to win against the other two divisions in the NL. The Cardinals have done nothing to justify the front office’s belief in the team, going 5-11 and allowing the Reds to both sweep them and pass them in the standings after they were completely left for dead.
Speaking of Cincinnati, Milwaukee imported Frankie Montas from the Reds, and so far, the results haven’t gone as planned. Montas wasn’t pitching all that well when the trade went down, making this a bit of a puzzling move for Milwaukee’s playoff push. However, Montas didn’t allow an earned run to Los Angeles in his last start, which suggests he might be getting more comfortable in Wisconsin. With Erick Fedde not adjusting to St. Louis at all and the Cardinals struggling anyway, the Brewers have an edge. Our prediction for Milwaukee vs. St. Louis is for the Brewers to win.
