The Milwaukee Brewers (44-31 SU, 41-34 ATS) look to even up their weekend series with the San Diego Padres (39-40 SU, 39-40 ATS) after dropping the first game on Thursday. Losing the first game of a series is nothing new for Milwaukee; the Brewers have done it in three consecutive series. In the previous two, Milwaukee made up for it by winning the remaining games of the series.
The Brewers have won five consecutive series overall, with the only loss being a sweep at National League leader Philadelphia. They’ll send Colin Rea to the mound, which has usually been a sign of good things to come them. Rea hasn’t given up more than two earned runs in any of his past five starts, and Milwaukee put four of them in the win column. The one exception was again the Phillies, where Rea pitched four scoreless innings but couldn’t get more than one run of support.

San Diego counters with Dylan Cease, who is coming off his worst start of the season. Cease hasn’t exactly done his job at keeping the ball in the park even on good days, as he’s given up nine home runs in his past seven trips to the mound. Milwaukee is only average at sending the ball out of the park, but Cease has been prone to giving up runs even when he doesn’t allow the big fly.
In his past seven starts, he’s allowed at least three runs on six occasions. The lone exception was Oakland, and the Athletics have proven pretty punchless when they don’t get the ball out of the park. Milwaukee has shown a nice tendency to bounce back, as it hasn’t lost consecutive games to anyone but the Phillies in over a month. Our prediction for Milwaukee vs. San Diego is for the Brewers to win.
