After Saturday's thrilling doubleheader between the Pirates and Brewers, in which Pittsburgh took both games by a single run, the series will conclude on Sunday. The highly anticipated pitching duel between Misiorowski and Skenes will not take place. The Milwaukee pitcher, who has been the hardest-throwing starting pitcher in MLB history, will miss Sunday's game due to arm fatigue. He will also be absent from the All-Star Game.
Gasser will take the mound for the Brewers, while Skenes will start for the Pirates, who will be looking to sweep the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner. This is a chance for Skenes to redeem himself; in June, the ace appeared to be throwing less hard, and the Reds and Phillies gave him solid contact in recent outings. However, Skenes improved in his last start, delivering a quality outing against the Braves in which he recorded 12 whiffs and threw 66 of 95 pitches for strikes.
Well, Sunday's game could be just as close as Saturday's two. In the first, the Pirates took a 7-6 lead with a grand slam by Valdez. Then, Soto forced a bases-loaded double play to earn the dramatic save.
