Milwaukee, who is averaging roughly 10.0 runs per game in its last five games, could only score three runs as the Reds' pitchers kept them in check throughout. Milwaukee remains the No.1 team in the NL Central Division at 78-45, holding an eight-game lead on the 70-53 Cubs.
Chicago scooped the last two of their three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates to stay in the hunt for a wild card spot. Averaging just 2.9 runs per game in their last five games, the Cubs relied on their pitching to gut out close victories in Game 2 (3-1) and Game 3 (4-3) against the Pirates. The Cubs are 10-7 when they play a team from the NL Central at home. Moreover, Chicago will be starting their highly touted ace, Cade Horton, against the Brewers. Horton has won his last four starts and is 4-1 with a 0.32 ERA in his last five mound appearances.
The Brewers are sending in Freddy Peralta, who sports a 3-2 record with a 3.96 ERA. Milwaukee is averaging 10.0 runs per game in their last five games, but their two-run production in their last game against the Reds might be an indication that they have hit the wall.
The Brewers are an intriguing +108 underdog for the reason that they have beaten the Cubs in four of their last six meetings, and the fact that they have just posted the longest win streak this season. However, Milwaukee’s offense will be facing one of MLB’s hottest pitchers.
