The Milwaukee Brewers (57-42 SU, 54-45 ATS) visit the Chicago Cubs (48-53 SU, 48-53 ATS) in what could be the last stand for the team from the Windy City. The Cubs’ biggest problem has been their own division, as they’ve gone just 12-21 against the NL Central. If Chicago could play in the American League, it might have a shot at the playoffs, as the Cubs own the NL’s fewest losses against the junior circuit.
But in the NL, they’re sinking just as the Pirates are rising and the Brewers and Cardinals are pulling away. Milwaukee had been struggling to get traction after a pair of series losses to the Dodgers and Pirates, but the Brewers seemed to have used the All-Star break to get back on track. The offense looked good in Minnesota, and Milwaukee now comes in riding a three-game win streak.

Tobias Myers has been excellent on the road for Milwaukee this season, posting a 2.56 ERA away from Wisconsin in his rookie season. The former minor league journeyman has held seven of his past 10 opponents to a single run or less, and he’s been the winning pitcher in six of those games.
Javier Assad’s story has been one of short outings and poor results. His pitching hasn’t been horrible overall, but the Cubs have ended up on the wrong end of the scoreboard in six of his past seven starts. He’s also coming off his shortest start of the year, as he recorded just seven outs against St. Louis. Given Milwaukee’s recent success and Chicago’s issues scoring runs, it makes sense to back the visitors here. Our prediction for Milwaukee vs. Chicago is Brewers -1.5.
