The weekend series between the Atlanta Braves (47-27) and the Milwaukee Brewers (45-28) kicked off yesterday evening. In a bit of a stunner, the Braves were able to put 2 runs on the board against the ace, Jacob Misiorowski, who had not allowed an earned run over his last 3 starts and 23 innings of work. He was outdueled by Martin Perez of the Braves, who held the Brewers to just 1 run on 6 hits in 6 innings of work. Mike Yastrzemski homered in the 7th to give the Braves a 3-1 lead, which ended up being the game-winning run as the Brewers tacked one on late in the 9th for a 3-2 final.
This afternoon, fans are in for yet another strong pitching matchup. Kyle Harrison, who is 8-1 with a 2.47 ERA, will get the start for the Brewers. He is coming off 6 innings of scoreless work against the Phillies in his last start, where he picked up his 8th win of the season. For the Braves, veteran Chris Sale will get the nod. He is 8-5 on the year and carries a solid 2.30 ERA. He has 92 strikeouts compared to just 20 walks on the season.
With two solid pitchers on the mound this afternoon, runs could be hard to come by in this second game of the series.
