The Marlins drew first blood in the series, outgunning the Nats in a high-scoring contest, 11-9, on Friday. Miami stormed to a 6-0 lead but the Nats stormed back behind James Wood’s 4 RBIs to draw within a run 7-8 after seven innings. Miami’s Eric Wagaman sparked a three-run rally in the 8th inning with a two-run single and Connor Norby drove one more to hike their lead to 11-8 heading into the final inning. Rookie Agustin Ramirez ignited the Marlins’ strong start, belting solo homer in the first and third inning.
The Nationals, who had averaged 1.6 runs per game in the past 5 games, finally woke up and delivered 8 runs in Friday’s loss to the Marlins. They might have suffered another L but scoring that many runs in a game is a refreshing sight for a team that has struggled putting runs on the board all season long.
