The Miami Marlins (23-45 SU, 28-40 ATS) open up a weekend series with the Washington Nationals (32-36 SU, 41-27 ATS). The Marlins are in the midst of a weird trend where they win the series opener, but then fail to get any other wins against that same opponent. That has kept the Marlins from developing a losing streak longer than four games, but they also haven’t won more than two straight games since May 18.
Washington saw its five-game win streak end in Detroit and now comes home to the middling confines of Nationals Park. Things haven’t been rosy as of late in the District, as the Nats have dropped five of their past eight at home. They did rebound to take three of four from the Braves, but the Nationals really looked lost at home at the start of June. As a whole, the Nats have been better on the road; they’re .500 away from home and just 13-17 in the District.

Our Washington Nationals vs Miami Marlins Prediction
The Nationals’ home struggles have tracked with that of starter MacKenzie Gore, whose ERA is almost two full runs higher away from home than at Nationals Park. Gore’s two worst outings have come against the Mets and the Blue Jays, and both games were played at home. Outside of those games, he hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a game.
Miami appears likely to throw a bullpen game, which seems unwise for a team whose bullpen ranks 21st in the majors and last in the NL East. The Marlins weren’t even close against the Nationals in their four games in Miami this year, and this isn’t likely to go much better. While the Fish have dominated the Nats in Washington as of late, that appears to be more weird coincidence than anything worth betting. That streak has to end sometime, and this looks like the day. Given the gap between the teams in South Florida, our prediction for Miami vs. Washington is Nationals -1.5.
