None of the three midweek Giants-Dodgers series games had a winner by three runs or more. This Giants team is looking to perfect the art of winning close games; they won two against the Dodgers, but couldn't sweep them, being shut out for eight innings by Glasnow. Putting that behind them and with an 11-14 record, the Giants are focused on the upcoming home series against the Marlins.

The Giants managed only one hit on Thursday, and it wasn't surprising that it came from the bat of the ever-reliable Luis Arraez; the Venezuelan is already nearing .300 in 90 at-bats this season. Even so, the team managed by rookie Tony Vitello desperately needs home runs. In Game 2 against the Dodgers, Bailey gave the fans at Oracle Park a reason to rise to their feet when he hit a three-run homer.

The Marlins are coming off a win in Miami, improving their record by taking the final game of the series against the Cardinals. The "Fightin' Fish" on Thursday, Ramírez and Hernández, batting fifth and sixth respectively, had a multi-hit game. Among other things, I liked that CF Marsee hit his first home run of the season in that series. The Marlins need him to raise his average from .179.
