The San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins meet again tonight for the sandwich game of their 3-game series.

San Diego has been the hottest team in baseball this month. Their strong play continued last night when they decimated the Marlins 8-2. After falling behind 1-0 in the 3rd inning, they posted 6 runs in the 5th inning to take the 6-1 lead and never let up. Jackson Merrill and Ty France each homered in the win. France finished 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and powered the Padres offense.

After an ugly start to the month, the Marlins looked to have turned things around before last night’s game. They had won 4 of their last 5 leading into the game. They were averaging 5 runs per game over that stretch. Eury Perez will get the start for the Marlins tonight, and that means one thing: they will need to provide serious run support. Perez has allowed 5 or more runs in 3 of his last 4 starts. His last outing was his “best” of that stretch. He allowed 3 runs over 5 innings in that game.

San Diego will start Casey Mize, who has seen his fair share of struggles since coming over at the trade deadline. He is just 2-3 with the Padres and has a nearly 6.00 ERA since joining the club.
