After a strong hitting series at PNC Park, where the Pirates split a two-game series against the Brewers, they returned to their usual lack of offensive production against the D-backs in the desert. The Bokies were anticipating a high-run game, setting the game-total line at 9.5 runs, but the Snakes took the game 1-1, 5-0, and the Bucks only allowed six hits.

At least for the Pirates, Oneil Cruz, who was coming off a 3 HR series in Pittsburgh, continued to increase his average by going 1-for-3 batting leadoff, striking out twice, although it is true that the umpire sabotaged an at-bat by calling a clear low ball as a strike. Even so, between Reynolds, Horwitz, and Bart batting 4th, 5th, and 6th in the order, they managed to go 0-for-12 between the three of them.

Meanwhile, the D-backs returned to their winning ways, and with an easy victory they will try to sweep the weak Pirates after they were swept in St. Louis by the Cardinals, losing all 3 games by one run.
