The Pirates certainly played an entertaining series against the Dodgers. But they were victims of Ohtani in every sense, losing the rubber match despite home runs by Flores and Lowe. The series drew a large crowd at PNC Park, and the Pirates will remain there to begin a weekend series against the Marlins.

The Pirates have a 35-34 record. The Marlins just had one of the best runs of the season; they swept the Diamondbacks and improved their record to 34-35. Even better, they blanked Arizona in the last two games of the series; the final game ended 2-0. Pete Fairbanks recorded his eighth save of the year, striking out two, and the Fighting Fish's runs came on a sacrifice fly by Edwards and an RBI single by Marsee.

Sandy Alcantara will take the mound for the Marlins, looking to find his form. One of the active pitchers with the most complete games recently, he currently has a 5-4 record, a 4.33 ERA, and 64 strikeouts. Despite the low strikeout rate, he had two diligent outings in his last two games, going into the seventh inning in both. In his previous outing, he tamed one of the most agile lineups in MLB, the Rays.
