Sunday afternoon, the Oakland A’s will try to complete the sweep of the Miami Marlins. After winning 3-1 on Friday with JP Sears pitching a gem, the A’s exploded for 20 runs on Saturday to pick up the 20-4 win in Game 2. It was ugly for the Marlins pitchers Saturday. Starter, Trevor Rogers gave up 8 runs on 8 hits over just 2.1 innings pitched. Long reliever, Darren McCaughan followed up by allowing 8 runs over 4.2 innings of work. Lastly, with the game well out of hand, the Marlins pitched 3rd baseman Emmanuel Rivera who gave up 4 in his lone inning. Brent Rooker and Brett Harris each hit 2 bombs in the win for It was not a surprised that the A’s hit 6 homeruns while scoring their 20 runs. They are 27th in the league in combined batting average and 28th in on base percentage. However, they have belted 44 homers which is 2nd best in baseball. If the A’s are scoring, you better believe that its on the backs of some long balls. In the final game of his 3-game set, the A’s will look to Joe Boyle (2-4, 6.08) in hopes of picking up the sweep. While the Marlins will counter with a once promising youngster in Sixto Sanchez (0-1, 8.36) who will be getting just his 2nd start of the season after doing much of his work out of the bullpen.
