On Friday, aside from two spectacular catches and a walk-off hit, center fielder Garrett Mitchell played the hero, giving the Brewers a narrow 2-1 victory over the Marlins. Game two was a higher-scoring affair; the Brewers took it 8-6, and Mitchell continued to be a key player, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
The Brewers rallied in Game 2, trailing 0-3 in the top of the second inning but taking an 8-3 lead by the end of the seventh. The top of the lineup delivered: Yelich and Chourio, batting leadoff and second, combined for two RBIs on Saturday. Yelich, in particular, hit a double to the opposite field near the line, the game-winning hit.
Even so, the Marlins attempted a rally in the ninth inning with a three-run homer by Conine; this forced the Brewers' manager to bring in his reliable closer, Trevor Megill, who recorded three straight outs for his 15th save of the year.
