The Miami Marlins (45-40) opened up their 3-game series with the Colorado Rockies (33-32) with a 10-7 victory last night. After trailing 5-2 in the 5th inning, the Marlins used a solo home run from Otto Lopez, followed by a 3-run homer from Griffin Conine to take a 6-5 lead. They never relinquished the lead and only added to it over the final frames. Despite a rough outing, Sandy Alcantara was able to pick up the win after allowing 5 runs in his 5.2 innings of work.
The win for the Marlins was their 9th in their last 11 games. They are now just 2 games back from the Phillies for 2nd place in the NL East and just 5.5 games back from Atlanta, who currently lead the division. Eury Perez will be on the mound tonight as the Marlins try to inch even closer to the top of the NL East.
For the Rockies, stringing wins together has been an impossible task for them over the course of this month. They have managed to win back-to-back games three times but have failed to convert those into full winning streaks. They have a monumental task in trying to turn this season around and find their way into the postseason.

Colorado seems to always play games where the over is in play. We believe that will be true again tonight as two mediocre starters will be on the mound for either team. Eury Perez of the Marlins is carrying a 4.41 ERA and Tanner Gordon of the Rockies has a robust 6.37 ERA. We expect at least one of these pitchers to get knocked around quite a bit and the other to allow a few runs of their own as this game will go over the total.
