Top spot in Group A of the Gold Cup is up for grabs on Sunday night, when Mexico face Costa Rica at Allegiant Stadium. Both sides are assured of their place in the quarter finals after winning their opening two games, but whoever finishes top of the group will avoid the United States in the last eight and have a theoretically easier path to the final.
Mexico currently occupy the top spot in the group thanks to their superior goal difference. They opened the tournament with a hard fought 3-2 win over the Dominican Republic, before easing past Suriname 2-0 in their second game. Meanwhile, Costa Rica edged out Suriname by the odd goal in seven in their first match, before squeezing past Suriname 2-1 thanks to a late strike from Josimar Alcócer.
