After eliminating the defending champion Katie Bouter on Friday, McCartney Kessler will now set her sights on advancing to the championship match of the 2025 Nottingham Open against Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia on Saturday.
Kessler picked up her third consecutive win on grass, but most of all, the latest victory gives her the chance to reach her fourth final on the WTA Tour. The American’s journey to the final four started with a thrilling three-set win over Beatriz Haddad Maia of Brazil 7-5 6-7(3) 7-5 in the first-round. She then followed it up with a dominant win over Lin Zhu of China 6-1 6-4 before outgunning Bouter 6-3 3-6 6-4 in another three-set banger.
Sramkova also went through the eye of a needle to reach this stage of the tournament. The Slovakian is a survivor of three consecutive three-set matches, starting off her campaign with a 7-6(2) 4-6 7-6(6) win over Laura Siegemund and then downing both Yulia Putintseva 6-1 4-6 6-4 and Linda Noskova 3-6 6-4 6-4 in the next two rounds.
