There's a lot at stake in the Champions League qualifying and playoff tie between Sweden's Malmö and Denmark's Copenhagen. This isn't an unprecedented duel; in 2019, the two teams were part of the same Europa League group, a group that Malmö topped and Copenhagen finished second with 9 points. In that tournament, they drew 1-1 in Sweden, and Copenhagen won 1-0 in Denmark.

Now, in 2025, it's a Champions League knockout tie, with both teams arriving in top form and on very good form for the match at Malmö's Eleda Stadion.

Malmö comfortably advanced through the qualifying round, winning the second leg 1-0 with a goal from Kaksbanovic and advancing 5-1 to their tie against Copenhagen. This victory saw the two-time Swedish champions reach this round having won each of their last seven matches, both in the Champions League and Allsvenskan. Eighteen Swedish league matches have already passed; Malmö is currently in 4th place with 33 points from 18 games.

Last year, Copenhagen competed in the Conference League, where they were eliminated in the round of 16 by eventual champions Chelsea. They had an easy tie in the qualifying round, winning 3-0 on aggregate against Drita Kosovo.
