Reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys will take on Daria Seville of Australia in the first round of the 2025 French Open on Monday.
Keys begins another bid for a Grand Slam title five months after hoisting her first major title at the Australian Open. Keys wrapped up her French Open buildup with a 5-3 record, playing no deeper than the quarterfinal of the Madrid Open. Despite crashing out earlier than expected in these big clay-court events, Keys still poses a threat to the rest of the field because of her championship pedigree and the fact that she already reached the semifinals at Roland Garros in 2018.
Seville booked her ticket to the main draw of the French Open after topping three opponents in the qualification phase. The 31-year-old Australia officially secured her slot when she defeated Taylor Townsend 2-6 6-2 6-4 in three sets. Seville just won 59 percent of her first serves in the match but broke Townsend 5 times, including 3 in the deciding set.
