The Raptors look like one of the weakest teams heading into the new season, even more so when they were hampered by injuries to start the new campaign. On Friday they will host Anthony Davis' Lakers who will be favorites to beat them on the road by 9.5 points. Despite the fact that the Raptors started their season with a 1-4 record, they covered in 4 of 5 games.
Since 2022, the Raptors have not beaten the Lakers and the last three games between these teams exceeded 230 points in total.
After winning the first three games of the season in Los Angeles, the Lakers lost against the Suns and Cavaliers on the road to close the month of October. Ball losses were the main cause of the Lakers' last defeat, they lost 21 balls that the Cavaliers capitalized on in 31 points. They could not recover from a bad first quarter where they allowed 42 points. Coach JJ Redick said they couldn't make those kinds of mistakes against good teams, and LeBron James said he felt they didn't match the Cavs' intensity and effort that night.
Getting a first road win is already urgent for the Lakers. Against the Raptors, it will be the first time they are favored outside of Los Angeles. Davis, who is averaging 30.6 points per game, will likely be the key to getting there.
