There are high expectations for what the Lakers can achieve this season. For now, their second game of the new season was pleasing, as slight underdogs in the betting, defeating the Timberwolves 128-110. The Lakers' best player on the court by far was Luka Doncic, with a night of 49 points, 11 rebounds, and 8 assists. However, the Slovenian, who is very prone to injuries, sprained his finger. Because of this, he is likely to miss the Lakers' next game against the Kings, their first away game of the season.
The luxury tax prevented the Lakers from making major new additions to the team, even though they made the right moves. However, the Lakers' preseason moves generally pleased fans, signing center Deandre Ayton from free agency and signing Jake LaRavia; they also brought in Marcus Smart to bring more experience to the roster.
For their part, the Kings started their season like the Lakers, also winning their second game and losing their debut. They won their last game 105-104 at the Golden 1 Center against the Utah Jazz. As expected, Domantas Sabonis was once again the hero for Sacramento, scoring with six seconds left to put the Kings ahead.

The Lakers will face two former Lakers on Sunday when they face the Kings: Westbrook and Schroder, who combined for 24 points in his Golden 1 Center debut for the Kings. These pairings with Sabonis create an interesting team in Sacramento, although fans on forums and social media still believe they'll compete for a play-in spot, especially given the few defensive players.
Doncic said he feels good and wants to win every game after his impressive performance against the T-Wolves, but due to a sprained finger, he'll be the main absentee on Sunday. Kings star LaVine, however, is also at risk of missing the game due to an illness; this would push Devin Carter into the rotation.
