The Los Angeles Dodgers (52-29, 26-15 Away) have a seemingly insurmountable lead on the San Diego Padres in the NL West at nine games. But at this stage of the season, nothing is insurmountable, and the Padres can start chipping away at the deficit when they host the Dodgers tonight at Petco Park in San Diego. First Pitch is scheduled for 9:45 p.m. EST, with coverage on Apple TV.
Both teams come into this series playing well. The Dodgers just swept the Twins in a three-game series on the road, and the Padres just swept the Braves in a three-game series at home.
San Diego is scheduled to start Walker Buehler today. Buehler is 4-3 in 15 starts with a 3.96 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. He has gone 1-2 in eight home starts with a 3.32 ERA and a .235 OBA.
The Dodgers are expected to give Roki Sasaki the start. Sasaki has gone 3-4 this season in 13 starts with a 4.76 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. He has not had his best stuff on the road, where he is 2-2 in six starts with a 6.19 ERA and a .256 OBA.

This is a tough one to pick a winner for. Both teams are playing well at the moment, although the Dodgers deserve an edge at the plate (but not a significant one). As for the pitchers, I’m not a fan of Buehler, but he has been doing a better job of late between the two pitchers. That, of course, does not make it any easier to pick a winner. So, rather than do so, I’m taking the over on this surprisingly low total.
