The Los Angeles Dodgers (51-29) were coming off losing their last two games of their series with the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend and set their sights on taking it out on the Minnesota Twins (38-43). They did exactly that to this point in the series by taking the first two games and outscoring the Twins 14-4 to this point.
While the run differential is staggering, it is also a bit misleading. The Dodgers routed the Twins last night by the final score of 12-3. Andy Pages and Freddie Freeman combined to go 6-10 with 3 RBIs and 4 runs scored in the win. Justin Wrobleski picked up his 9th win on the season. He pitched 7 innings of great work and allowed just 2 runs on 5 hits.
The Dodgers' bats did the heavy lifting last night, but it was pitching that earned them the win in game one. Will Klein, Eric Lauer, Kyle Hurt, and Tanner Scott combined to allow just 1 earned run and 3 total hits in 9 innings of work. That one run came in the 1st inning and tied the game after Ohtani went yard in the top of the 1st. Freddie Freeman broke the tie with a solo homer in the 6th and ended up being the game-winning run. The Dodgers will throw Ohtani tonight in the final game of the series and will look to take a sweep here in Minnesota.
