The Los Angeles Dodgers (7-2 SU, 4-5 ATS) make their first road visit of the season as they head to Wrigley Field to face the Chicago Cubs (4-2 SU, 4-2 ATS). The Dodgers have been impossible to stop on offense to this point, as they haven’t failed to score at least five runs in any of their nine games. Los Angeles’ stats are a bit skewed because it has played more games than anyone else, but the Dodgers have scored more runs than anyone and are averaging 6.33 runs per game.
The Cubs’ offense hasn’t been too bad either. The Cubs have scored 35 runs in their past four games, although part of that was because they got to face the Colorado Rockies. Still, the Cubs’ offense has spread its success around, as eight different players have at least three runs batted in to their name. The Cubs aren’t much for extra-base hits, but they manufacture runs well.

If these teams have such great offenses, why is the total only 7.5 runs? Simple: the wind in Wrigley Field can wreak havoc on a lineup. The wind gets so strong when it blows in that Cubs fans jokingly refer to it as “Wrigley Field II” and go in expecting to see lower levels of offense. With Los Angeles pitcher Bobby Miller coming off a strong outing in his first start, that also suggests a lower total.
But Kyle Hendricks didn’t look good in his first start, and the Dodgers haven’t been dependent on home runs to produce offense. Both teams get on base and bring runs around rather than going for the instant offense of a home run. Playing at Wrigley Field II might bother some teams, but these two aren’t likely to be among them.
