The Los Angeles Angels will try to get back on the right side of the scoreboard today in the final game of their three-game weekend series with the Minnesota Twins. First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. EST at Target Field in Minneapolis.
Things have not gone well for the Angels on the road this season. Yesterday’s 5-1 loss to the Twins was the sixth consecutive road loss and eighth out of their last ten (on the road). The blame is twofold; the Angels are only hitting .215 on the season (.214 on the road). But while the pitching staff has a 3.78 ERA at home, its ERA on the road is 5.30. As for the Twins, it has been a slow start to the season for them. But a win today will give them their first three-game winning streak of the season.
Jose Soriano is scheduled to get the start for the Angels; he is 2-3 on the season with a 4.34 ERA and 1.52 WHIP. Joe Ryan is 1-2 across four starts with a 4.00 ERA and a .96 WHIP. Soriano gave up five earned runs in two of his last four starts. Ryan gave up six in his last start.

Neither pitcher has been bad this season, but it is hard to say they’ve been good either. But it is more likely that Joe Ryan gets support from his lineup than Jose Soriano. Minnesota’s bats have not been deadly this year, but the LA Angels’ bats have been downright quiet. I think Ryan will get enough out of the Minnesota lineup to win by at least two.
