It has been a series to forget for the Los Angeles Angels (12-16) to this point against the Kansas City Royals (10-17). In game one, the Royals jumped out to a 5-run lead after the 4th inning. The Angels tried to mount a comeback but fell short and ultimately lost 6-3. In game two, the Royals jumped out again and took a 4-0 lead after the 3rd. Jo Adell hit a solo homerun for the Angels to cut it to 3, but the Royals tacked on 8 more runs over the next 6 innings.
Tonight, the Royals will send Seth Lugo to the mound. He will be trying to help the Royals complete the sweep. Lugo has been strong through his early starts this season. While he is just 1-1, his 1.15 ERA is one of the best in baseball. He is coming off a scoreless 7 innings of work against Baltimore on Monday. He pitched out of trouble after walking 4 batters and should be primed to be in better control tonight.
The Angels will have Reid Detmers going for them. Detmers has not been anywhere near Lugo in terms of performance. However, he has been able to bounce back nicely in his starts that followed a rough outing this season. After allowing 5 runs over 4 innings against the Braves, he went 7 innings against the Yankees and held them to just 1 run. Now, he is coming off another rocky start against Toronto. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings. He should be set to bounce back again here.

That is not a good sign when facing a pitcher of Lugo’s current caliber. While LA should struggle to score, we do expect Detmers to have another quality start after being roughed up in his last one. The Royals' lineup has not been consistent this season and may have put up the majority of their runs in their last game, when they finished with 12 runs. We like the total to stay under this evening.
