After a close 6-5 win on Friday, the Detroit Tigers aim to establish dominance over the Los Angeles Angels as they go for a more convincing win on Saturday at Comerica Park.
The Tigers dodged a potential three-game losing skid as Matt Vierling belted a three-run homer in the 8th inning to give his team a close win over the visiting Angels on Friday. Detroit, who averages 1.4 home runs per game in their last five assignments, got a homer each from first baseman Spencer Torkelson and Vierling, while shortstop Javier Baez recorded a two-run single in the second. Detroit remains atop the AL Central with a 67-50 record, but is gradually feeling the pressure from the surging Cleveland Guardians (60-55).
The Angels have lost three in a row since winning back-to-back games earlier this week. Los Angeles, who suffered consecutive one-run losses, has struggled to close out games primarily because of their horrendous bullpen, which carries a 5.30 ERA this season.
