Lorenzo Musetti of Italy will test his mettle against the giant-slaying Gabriel Dialo of Canada on Thursday in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Madrid Open.
Musetti improved his 2025 clay-court season record to 8-1 after sweeping Alex De Minaur of Australia 6-4 6-2. Roughly 24 hours after grinding out a tough two-set win over Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 7-5 7-6(3), Musetti produced his best form in the tournament as he totally dismantled a top-10 caliber opponent in De Minaur. The Italian banked on his tremendous service game anew, holding 100 percent of his serves while capturing three breakpoint conversions.
Meanwhile, Gabriel Diallo reached the quarterfinal stage of an ATP-1000 event for the first time after shocking former world’s No.3 Grigor Dimitrov 5-7 7-6(7) 6-4. Diallo saved three match points to hack out an improbable comeback against a shell-shocked Dimitrov. The Canadian lucky loser has now won four in a row since losing to Borna Coric of Croatia 6-3 7-6(6) in the final qualifying match.
