The big cup nights are back in England! And this Tuesday, Anfield will be the venue for Liverpool's entry into the EFL Cup. Opposite them, Southampton, who have already made it through two rounds (against Northampton and then Norwich), will try to play the spoilers in what is bound to be a hostile atmosphere.

Since their disappointment in the Community Shield final against Crystal Palace, Liverpool have wasted no time in getting back on track. With Arne Slot at the helm, the Reds have racked up a string of victories: five wins in five Premier League games and a characterful 3-2 victory over Atlético Madrid in the Champions League. Already the clear leaders in the league, with an average of 2 goals scored per game, Liverpool are looking formidable. Add to that the support of Anfield and a deep bench that allows for rotation... and you have a serious contender for the final victory in this Cup!

Opposite them, Southampton are going through a much more difficult period... After a good start, the Saints are marking time. Admittedly, they brilliantly disposed of Norwich in the previous round (0-3), but this victory is an exception in an overall gloomy series: two draws against Watford (2-2) and Portsmouth (0-0), followed by a heavy defeat against Hull City (3-1) over the weekend... And in a match where intensity and precision will be crucial, the Saints will have to play a perfect game if they hope to compete. Especially since matches between the two clubs often turn into offensive festivals...
