This week will see the Champions League quarterfinals reach their conclusion. This Tuesday, Liverpool will face Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg at Anfield. The Reds have their backs against the wall more than ever after the first leg. Last Wednesday, they were clearly outclassed at the Parc des Princes and suffered a deserved 2-0 defeat. Having just regained some confidence in the Premier League by beating Fulham (2-0), Arne Slot’s team will try to show a completely different side in front of their fans.

PSG isn’t having any of that! The defending champions from Paris may have done the hard part by building a comfortable lead at home. Unlike their next opponent, the club from the French capital did not play last weekend. This certainly allowed Luis Enrique’s men to recharge their batteries before traveling to England. They will do everything in their power to put on a strong performance this Tuesday night and qualify for the Champions League semifinals without too much trouble!

Liverpool isn't having a great season. After losing the Community Shield in their opening match, they were also knocked out very early in both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup. The Merseyside club has never been in contention for the Premier League title either. Their main goal will be to finish in the top 5 and qualify for next season's Champions League. After three games without a win, the Reds have just bounced back in the English league by beating Fulham (2-0).

A valuable victory that allows them to solidify their fifth-place standing. They can now turn their full attention to the Champions League. It will take a miracle for Arne Slot’s team to reach the semifinals. The team that finished third in the group stage was defeated in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal at PSG (2-0). Admittedly, Liverpool trails by only two goals. However, they posed little threat, failing to register a single shot on target at the Parc des Princes.

PSG is more on a roll than ever in this final stretch. In Ligue 1, they’ve won 4 of their last 5 matches and seem to have a strong grip on the title. The Parisian club sits at the top of the standings, 4 points ahead of RC Lens (2nd) and with one game in hand. They’ve also been playing very well recently in this year’s Champions League. After battling through the playoffs to defeat AS Monaco (aggregate score: 5-4), the defending Champions League champions have raised their level of play.

Chelsea bore the brunt of this in the Round of 16. Luis Enrique’s men easily won both the first leg (5-2) and the second leg (0-3) to face another Premier League heavyweight in the next round. Liverpool still has a number of players out. Alisson Becker, Conor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni, Stefan Bajcetic, and Wataru Endo remain unavailable. Curtis Jones, who picked up an injury against Fulham last weekend, remains a major doubt. With the starting goalkeeper out, Giorgi Mamardashvili will be in goal for the Reds, just as he was in the first leg. It remains to be seen whether Arne Slot will opt for a three-man defense in front of him, as he did at the Parc des Princes.

In any case, Ibrahima Konaté and Virgil van Dijk will need to put in a much better performance than last week. The same goes for midfielders Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister. Left on the bench in the first leg, Mohamed Salah hopes to regain his starting spot on Tuesday night. Especially since he just made a big impact in the Premier League against Fulham. Having failed to make much of an impression in the first leg, Hugo Ekitiké hopes to get more opportunities at Anfield. We might also see Alexander Isak back in action, as he came off the bench in the last two matches.

Bradley Barcola is expected to return to the PSG squad.

As for PSG, Fabian Ruiz and Quentin Ndjantou will still not be back. On the bright side, Bradley Barcola could rejoin Luis Enrique’s squad. This provides an additional option for the Parisian coach, who can already count on most of his key players. In goal, Matveï Safonov was solid in the first leg. He hopes to be just as solid this Tuesday night. In front of him will be the standard defensive lineup, featuring Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, and Nuno Mendes.

In midfield, Vitinha and João Neves continue to dazzle on the pitch with their talent. But it’s hard not to mention Warren Zaïre-Emery as well. Back to his best form this season, he has become indispensable. PSG will also be able to rely on a high-quality attacking unit. Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have made a habit of shining in this edition of the Champions League. They even scored in the first leg. A match in which Ousmane Dembélé struggled far more with his finishing. He’ll be looking to make amends at Anfield!
