by Tyler Doty in Copa Libertadores Picks
Ecuadorian club LDU Quito will face a Brazilian club for the second time in a row in this quarterfinal. After defeating Botafogo RJ in the round of 16 (1-0 defeat and 2-0 victory), the current third-place team in the Ecuadorian league is confident after earning four points in its last two games against Macara (1-1) and Libertad (0-1) on Saturday. In this Copa Libertadores, Tiago Nunes' team has recorded three wins and one draw at its Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium in Quito, but more importantly, has not conceded a single goal. LDU Quito has performed well at home against Dep. Tachira (2-0), Flamengo (0-0), Central Cordoba (3-0), and Botafogo RJ (2-0).
Since its last match in the Copa Libertadores, Sao Paulo has played three league games, winning two at home against Atletico-MG (2-0) and Botafogo RJ (1-0) this weekend, then losing one away to Cruzeiro (1-0) on August 31. Having climbed to seventh place in the Brazilian league, Sao Paulo has nevertheless only managed nine wins in 23 Serie A Betano matches. Away from home, Sao Paulo, who failed to win at Atl.Nacional (0-0) in the previous round of the Copa Libertadores, have taken just one point from their last two away games in the domestic league, drawing 2-2 at Sport Recife and losing 1-0 at Cruzeiro just under three weeks ago.

Our LDU Quito vs SAO Paulo Prediction
LDU Quito has always beaten Brazilian club Sao Paulo at its Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium. Three victories were achieved in March 2004 (3-0), September 2020 (4-2), and August 2023 (2-1), all in the Copa Libertadores. This would be a fourth consecutive home win for the Ecuadorian club, which has yet to concede a goal at home in this competition and is coming off two big wins against Central Cordoba (3-0) and Botafogo RJ (2-0). With Sao Paulo having recorded only two narrow victories in their last nine away games in all competitions, it is unlikely that they will perform well in Ecuador in this quarter-final first leg.
Our prediction for LDU Quito vs Sao Paulo FC: LDU Quito to win!
