Leylah Annie Fernandez of Canada will take on Cristina Bucsa of Spain in the second round of the 2025 Nottingham Open on Wednesday.
Fernandez arrested a four-match losing streak on Monday, beating Suzan Lamens of the Netherlands 6-3 4-6 7-5 in three sets. Fernandez, who claimed her first win since beating Antonia Ruzic 6-4 6-0 at the 2025 Italian Open, fired 43 first-serve points and broke Lamens five times to hack out a tough win.
Bucsa picked up her fourth win in the grass-court season, beating Yuliia Starodubtseva of Ukraine 6-4 6-0. After securing a lucky loser nod, Bucsa made the most of her second chance by playing one of her best game this year against Starodubtseva, winning 79 percent of her first serves and breaking four times.
