The reigning Spanish La Liga champions, Barcelona, kicked off the new season with a 3-0 victory against Mallorca. The highlight was a disastrous refereeing effort that resulted in five yellow cards and one red card for Mallorca in the first half, but all of that was before Raphinha and Ferran Torres' goals.
Coach Flick was critical of his team, given how difficult it was for them to extend their lead against a Mallorca side that played with nine players during the second half. However, Barcelona showed their dominance, and star player Lamine Yamal had another brilliant game with a goal and an assist.
Yamal scored the last of Barcelona's goals, cutting in from the left and slotting the ball in inside the far post, in a move typical of the teenager who is perfecting it more and more.
Levante, Barcelona's next opponent, returned to the top flight; On Matchday 1, they lost 2-1 to Alavés in a game with little attacking rhythm, conceding the defeat in the 94th minute.
