The first Sunday night MLS fixture of the campaign sees the LA Galaxy host last season's Eastern Conference finalists New York City at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The Galaxy have made several off season aquisitions as they look to improve on an utterly miserable 2025 season. The likes of João Klauss, Erik Thommy, Justin Haak and Jakob Glesnes look like shrewd signings, but they will all need to hit the ground running if the Galaxy are to mount a serious playoff bid this time around.
New York have been a lot quieter in the transfer market, with Australian defensive midfielder Kai Trewin the only significant offseason signing. Pascal Jansen's men exceeded all expectations last season, and hopes will be high that they can once again challenge at the business end of the campaign.

We expect LA to be much stronger this season, but it will take some time for new players to gel, so don't be surprised to see them make another slow start.
In contrast, New York will start the new season with pretty much the same squad that reached the conference finals in 2025. As such, we are expecting them to carry on where they left off and hit the ground running.
