The series between the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals is knotted at one game apiece. The Royals took game one in what was a race to 15 runs, while the Mets won a much lower-scoring game last night to tie things up.
In the first game, the runs were coming at a furious pace. The teams combined for 18 runs through just the 1st five innings of the game. The Royals then used a 7-run 7th inning to take a commanding lead over the Mets. Kansas City combined for a total of 8 doubles in the win, and Lane Thomas led the way with 4 RBIs. Seth Lugo started for Kansas City and was lucky to not factor into the decision after he allowed 9 runs in just 4.1 innings of work. The Mets did throw a bullpen start for this one, so it wasn’t a big surprise that Kansas City was able to put up numbers.
In game two, Christian Scott started for the Mets and went 5 innings of scoreless work. He held the Royals to just 5 hits and struck out the same number of batters. On the flip side, the Royals went with a bullpen start, and while they didn’t get knocked around as much as the Mets did the day before, they did allow 6 runs, which was enough for the 6-2 Mets win in this one.
