The Tigers are dealing a tremendous blow to the Royals' wild-card hopes, winning the first two games of the series in Detroit. The series concludes Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park, with the Tigers favored to sweep at -145 odds.
Saturday's game was a close one. The Royals couldn't win even with their reliable pitcher Wacha, who pitched six innings, but Paddack also had a strong start for the Tigers. Both starters pitched five-plus innings. For the Royals, Pasquantino's hot streak appears to be extending, although he only went 1-for-4; the first baseman's hit was an RBI double. Pasquantino was coming off the back of a home run in each of his four games in the last series against the Rangers. Witt Jr. also appeared, hitting a solo home run and going 3-for-4, but the SS's efforts were in vain against the Tigers' clutch bat.
Tolkerson and Ibañez homered Saturday for Detroit. Melton, Holton, and Vest, who earned his 19th save, combined to seal the Tigers' fifth straight victory, leaving them two games away from reaching 80 wins.
