The Cleveland Guardians (6-4) have been able to jump out to a couple of games above .500 to start the season despite having a low offensive output compared to the rest of the league. They have won 3 of their last 4 games and took 2 of 3 from the Chicago Cubs in their latest series. Their pitching has been carrying them to this point. They have the 10th-best combined ERA at 3.60 in the league. While pitching is a big part of the game, they will need to figure out the batting soon or they will quickly dip under that .500 mark.

Their opponents on Monday afternoon will be the visiting Kansas City Royals (4-5). Unlike the Guardians, the Royals have had success at the plate and rank inside the top 10 of MLB in both batting average (.249) and on-base percentage (.332). While they have been getting on base consistently, the Guardians have not produced as many runs as they would like. That said, the runs will come if they continue their strong hitting. Pitching is where the Royals have had their struggles. They have allowed an average of 5.8 runs per game over their last 5 games.
