3-7 is the Orioles' record in their last 10 games, but they're certainly hoping that winning the series against the Yankees will be a turning point for them. They closed out April by beating the Yankees 5-4 in Game 3 of the series in Baltimore. They brought in closer Bautista, who earned his fifth save of the year by getting Pereza, Goldschmitt, and Grisham out. The O's are staying in Baltimore for the highly anticipated visit of the Royals, which inevitably brings back memories of the playoff series where the Orioles didn't hit at all against Kansas City's solid starting pitching.

Things have changed since that playoff series, but one thing that has remained the same is the Royals' dominant starting rotation, which will start with Wacha for Game 1 of the series.

The Royals are coming off a sweep of the Rays with their starting rotation wreaking havoc in Tampa, but their poor hitting doesn't do justice to their pitching prowess. The Royals are the team that produces the fewest runs per game, with serious problems hitting home runs. Still, they had a strong day to close out the series against the Rays, where the bottom of the lineup responded, collecting 15 hits in total.
