For the last time in 2025, the UEFA Champions League returns on Tuesday, and we've got an early start. In Kazakhstan, Kairat Almaty and Olympiacos kick things off. Somewhat predictably, the hosts have struggled to cope with the pressure of facing some of Europe's most elite teams, winning zero out of five UCL games, which has left them sitting in a lowly 35th position in the league-phase standings. Realistically, at this point, they have very little chance of finishing in the all-important top 24.
Less predictably, the visitors, who are much more experienced on the continent, have also found it very tough to get going, also winning none of their first five league-phase games. The men from Piraeus, Greece have picked up just two points so far. This is a big opportunity for them to save themselves, and if they can secure a win in Astana, then the Greeks will at least have a chance of making the top 24. Let's see what happens.

It has taken a while for the hosts to warm up at this level, but their last two performances, at least offensively, have been in encouraging. They scored away to Inter, before scoring twice in Copenhagen during the last round of UCL games. Such efforts tell me that they can easily hurt a poor Olympiacos team on home soil.
Of course, the visitors should also fancy themselves to score here. The hosts have struggled defensively, while for all they've not won yet, the Greeks have created plenty in the final third, most recently scoring three against Real Madrid. Goals for both are on the cards, and I'm not sure that the early market suggests that strongly enough. Take the early value.
