Brandon Nakashima of the United States vies for a spot in the third round of the 2025 Italian Open when he tangles with Jordan Thompson of Australia on Friday in Rome, Italy.
Nakashima gained solid results in Madrid following two first-round exits in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. The American rattled off two impressive wins, including a 7-5 6-3 win over Flavio Cabolli of Italy in the third round. Nakashima eventually lost to former world’s No.1 Danil Medvedev of Russia 3-6 6-1 6-4 in round of 16, but his recent run in Madrid should bolster his spirit ahead of the French Open.
Thompson captured only his second win in four clay-court matches this year as he outgunned Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard of France 3-6 6-3 7-6(5) in the first round. Thompson collected 36 points off his first serves and broke Perricard’s serves twice.
