Jessica Pegula of the United States clashes with Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan in the semifinal of the 2025 Adelaide International. Pegula reached the semifinal after her opponent, Ashlyn Krueger, was forced to retire in the second set due to an injury. Pegula was leading 6-4, 6-2 when Krueger decided to retire. Ranked No.7 worldwide, Pegula bested Maria Sakkari of Greece 6-4 6-1 in the first round. Putintseva, meanwhile, has produced top-notch tennis in the past three games as she eliminated quality opponents such as Donna Vekic 6-2 6-3, Ons Jabeur 6-2 6-4 and Diana Shnaider 7-6(3) 6-7(9) 6-4. In the victory over Shnaider, Putintseva exhibited poise under duress to execute the winning shots in a back-and-forth tussle with one of the tournament favorites.
