Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia goes head-to-head with the crowd favorite Jasmine Paolini of Italy in the fourth round of the 2025 Italian Open on Monday.
Ostapenko got a free pass to the fourth round after her opponent, Laura Siegemund, gave her a walkover win on Saturday. Ostapenko, who gutted out a 1-6 6-4 6-3 win over Rebecca Sramkova in the second round, is trying to make another deep run in Rome three weeks after winning the Stuttgart Open titles and a couple of weeks following a shocking second-round exit in Madrid.
Paolini registered two clean wins over Lulu Sun of New Zealand 6-4 6-3 and Ons Jabeur of Turkey 6-4 6-3 to reach the fourth round in Rome. In her battle against Jabeur, Paolini landed 73 percent of her first serves, winning 27 points from these balls. She also scored 4 breakpoint chances and allowed only two service breaks to the Turk.
