Reigning FIBA world champion Germany will take on Asian power Japan on the first day of the 5x5 men’s basketball competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Germany, who bagged their first-ever FIBA World Cup title in Manila last year, will be coming into the tournament with high expectations of at least winning a medal for their country in this quadrennial sporting event. Led by Dennis Shroder and the Wagner Brothers (Franz and Moritz), team Germany is looking like a strong medal contender. The Germans have gotten terrific results during their preparation for the Olympic Games, destroying the Netherlands and Japan before pushing Team USA to the limit in their last exhibition game. Japan secured their second consecutive appearance in the Olympic Games after becoming the best Asian finisher at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Japan features NBA players Rui Hachimura and Yuta Watanabe, and a handful of stars from their domestic league, the B.League.
