Inter and Napoli finished in the top two of Serie A in the last two seasons. However, in the previous season when they were crowned champions, the Nerazzurri secured the title with an 11-point lead over their closest rival, Napoli. In the newly begun Serie A season, they will face each other in Milan on Matchday 3, after Inter won both of their matches and Napoli only one.
Napoli won their first four matches last season, but that won't be the case this season, as they lost their first match since Allegri took over as manager. Napoli again has a good chance of becoming a thorn in Inter's side, as the Nerazzurri haven't managed to beat them in any of their last five encounters; they haven't won against them since 2014.
Inter managed to defeat teams expected to struggle at the bottom of the table in their first two matches, starting with a 4-1 victory over Monza in their opening game, with four different players scoring goals. Then, Calhanoglu scored the winning goal in their visit to Cagliari.
