It seems reasonable to consider the Pacers as underdogs by more than 10 points when they face the Celtics on Monday. This is especially true given that Indiana is coming off its 22nd loss of the season against the Pelicans in a matchup between two teams at the bottom of their conferences. The game, which initially appeared close, saw the Pelicans defeat the Pacers 128-109 at the Smoothie King Center; Indiana allowed 44 points in the first quarter alone.
The costly season-long absence of Haliburton, coupled with poor defense, has left the reigning NBA runners-up with just six wins this season. At the same time, their offensive woes have them averaging a paltry 110.2 points per game; only the Nets average less in the entire NBA.
All of their performances contrast sharply with the Celtics, who were able to defeat the Raptors 112-96 on the same day as Indiana's loss, thanks to a 33-point performance from Payton Pritchard at ScotiaBank Arena. White and Simons each contributed 15 points in Boston's latest victory.

Pacers coach Rick Carlisle could secure his 1000th career win by beating the Celtics on Monday, but it seems unlikely given the team's form; he himself admitted how badly his team played in the first quarter against New Orleans, allowing 44 points that cost them the game.
