Cirstea, the unofficial marathon queen of this year’s Cincinnati Open, will take on the former world’s No.1 and reigning Wimbledon Open champion, Iga Swiatek, in the fourth round on Wednesday.
As mentioned, Cirstea reached this stage of the tournament by winning three consecutive three-set matches. The Romanian opened her campaign with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 win over Donna Vekic, followed it up with a 7-6, 2-6, 6-4 win over Magdalena Frech and then rallied past Yue Yuan 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. Ranked outside the WTA top-100, Cirstea bumped her 2025 hard-court record to 11-9 and overall season record to 14-13.
Swiatek will be walking into the stadium on Wednesday with a three-day worth of rest after his scheduled opponent, Marta Kostyuk, pulled out before their match started. Swiatek, who destroyed Anastasia Potapova 6-1, 6-4 in the second round, is seeking a better finish in Cincinnati after her earlier campaign in Montreal was ended earlier than expected by Clara Tauson in the fourth round, 6-7, 3-6.
